It’s Been a few years,

Many laughs  and many tears,

Since I wrote the bio below.

Please check back from time-to-time.

I’m working on an updated rhyme.

Very soon, I’ll have something to show.

Autobiography

By Mr. Y

So I thought about an autobiography,

But most of what I write is called poetry.

Where do I start if I write about me?

I’ll give it a try and then we’ll see.

I was born when the President was John F. Kennedy,

That was a long time ago in a different century,

In a part of Oklahoma called Green Country.

I’m a 3rd generation native Tulsan, you see.

Graduated from Tulsa Memorial High School in 1981,

Went to college and earned two degrees before I was done.

Went into business with my Dad in OKC.

Married my wife Jan in 1993.

In 1995 we had our first son.

And in 1998, we had the second one.

That same year, Dad and I sold the business,

And in the year 2000, we all moved to Texas.

The next years were a blur as the kids started school.

They thought having Dad at home was pretty cool.

At both Hilltop and Naumann, I would volunteer.

That is what led me to change my career.

I found that the students and I just clicked.

Though it was not the profession I originally picked.

Perhaps being a teacher was in my blood.

Would I succeed or turn out to be a dud?

Those that know me know I play to win.

So I tried, and tried, and tried again.

Then one day, Mr. Hicks took a chance on me.

The rest, as they say is history.

After four years with Mr. Hicks, we both decided to go.

He got a big office downtown and I came to Pillow.

Now he’s my boss’ boss but still a wonderful guy.

And I ‘m back teaching third, and still Mr. Y.

In 2018, I lost my Dad.

Part of me will forever be sad.

His battles with cancer have left me scarred.

And sometimes going on is really very hard.

But my Pillow family looks after me.

They appreciate what I do, so it’s easy to see,

That this is the place that I want to be.

So tell me, how’d I do with this poetography?
